AKA 6 Recap

AKA 6 set out to start off 2019 with a bang and the event lived up to the expectations. With 8 of the 13 fights ending in a finish, the action was hot from start to finish. Let’s recap some of the action!

In our main event, Devin Miller took on Elliot Conn in what proved to be a fun back and forth battle with Conn coming out aggressive and having some early success. Miller was able to take control of the fight and quickly ended the main event from Conn’s back with a barrage of heavy ground and pound.

In the co-main event, Steve Jones remained undefeated and picked up his first pro title, winning the AKA welterweight title in a one-sided but entertaining contest against a game Josh Davilla. Jones was able to use his considerable size advantage to control the distance and busted up Davilla early in the fight. Josh showed amazing toughness and grit in continuing to push forward the entire fight and never gave Jones a chance to relax.

Cody Freeman extended his winning streak with a 2nd round submission of Devonaire Jones. Freeman showed great patience as he looked for his opening and once he found it quickly ended the fight.

Cory Johnson started off his pro career with a quick victory of King Gladney in a little over a minute. From the get go, the power advantage was very apparent. Cory wasted no time getting King to the ground where his violent ground and pound forced the referee to call a halt to the action.

Chris Williams and Johnathan King made national news on the amateur portion of the card, but not in the way anyone wanted. 22 seconds into the fight, King threw an inside leg kick that resulted in a broken tibia and fibula. The injury was one of the worst visuals in MMA history and the concern for King was immediate. King was attended to by the ringside doctor and had surgery the next morning. He is expected to make a full recovery!
