American Kombat Alliance has signed undefeated professional featherweight Nevan “Nerve” Driehuis to an exclusive four-fight agreement, securing one of Louisiana’s emerging young prospects for the next chapter of his professional career.
For Driehuis, this is much more than signing with another promotion.
AKA is where much of his story has already been written.
Driehuis has competed under the American Kombat Alliance banner since his second amateur fight. He grew from a young amateur prospect into a professional inside the AKA cage, developing relationships with the people behind the promotion along the way.
Now 2-0 as a professional after compiling a 7-1 amateur MMA record, Driehuis is officially making AKA his home for the next four fights.
To sign a four fight deal with AKA is exciting for me. I’ve been fighting with AKA since my second fight as an amateur. They have always been the most professional, had the most hospitality, and put on the best events. I’ve grown a personal relationship with the AKA owners over the past few years so to be able to represent such an amazing team of people who share the same core beliefs as I do, I’m extremely grateful and can’t wait to show everyone the high level competition that AKA is producing out of Louisiana.
From Bullied Teenager to Undefeated Professional
Driehuis’ story in combat sports began well before professional MMA was the goal.
Growing up in Lake Charles, Driehuis has previously spoken about experiencing bullying when he was younger. At 15, he began martial arts under Josh Quayhagen, initially wanting to learn how to defend himself.
Within months, martial arts became something much bigger.
Driehuis fell in love with the discipline and eventually began competing in MMA.
His relationship with American Kombat Alliance began almost immediately. His second amateur MMA fight brought him into the AKA cage against Marco Esparza at AKA 21 in 2022.

Driehuis won his first four amateur fights before suffering the first defeat of his career, a decision loss to Seth Dardar in an AKA amateur championship fight.
It proved to be a defining moment.
Driehuis has previously described questioning his future in the sport following the defeat before recommitting himself to MMA. He responded by continuing his rise through the amateur ranks and ultimately finished his amateur career with a 7-1 record.
According to Tapology, Driehuis finished his amateur career on a three-fight winning streak before making the jump to the professional ranks.
The Professional Chapter Begins with AKA
When it was time to turn professional, Driehuis stayed inside a familiar cage.
He made his professional debut at AKA 51 against Isnaurys Reyes. Driehuis earned his first professional victory when Reyes was unable to continue following the opening round.

Driehuis returned at AKA 53 and added another professional victory, stopping Adrian Smith with strikes at 3:18 of the second round.
He now stands 2-0 professionally and 9-1 across his amateur and professional MMA career.
At just 22 years old, he believes he is only beginning.
“I Plan to Be the Next”
The exclusive four-fight agreement represents a commitment from both sides.
For Driehuis, familiarity played a role, but so did his belief in where American Kombat Alliance is headed.
What made me want to make AKA my home was because I know the owners and the matchmakers want to see me reach my highest potential, most promotions will be strictly business, but I have a lot of love for the people of AKA. I’ve seen the work they’re putting in to their events and what they do for the fighters. They will be known very soon to be THE UFC feeder of Louisiana, and I plan to be the next.
Driehuis isn’t signing a four-fight contract simply to accumulate four more appearances. He already knows exactly what he wants those four fights to accomplish.
My goal for these next 4 fights is to put on the greatest performances that the AKA audience will ever see. By the end of my contract, I would love to have put on undeniable performances in the AKA cage, have my hands on the AKA featherlight title, and ultimately a phone call from the UFC.
First Stop: AKA 59 in Lake Charles
Before championships and UFC phone calls can become reality, there is another fight to win.
And the first fight of this new chapter happens at home.
Driehuis will compete at AKA 59 in Lake Charles, Louisiana, giving the hometown fighter an opportunity to begin his four-fight run in front of the community he has long said he wants to represent on MMA’s biggest stages.
It means the world that I get to start this chapter in my hometown, it’s nothing new to me fighting at home but it always feels fresh when you’re at home. I’m beyond grateful, I’m excited to put Lake Charles on the map right beside my brother Hunter Smith.
Driehuis isn’t interested in revealing much about what he has planned for his AKA 59 opponent.
He is willing to make one promise.
I can’t tell you much about my opponent, but the fans can always expect a non-stop pace, power, precision, and grit. I’ve never had a boring fight and I plan to keep it that way.

Faith, Fighting and a Bigger Purpose
There is another element of Driehuis’ story that cannot be separated from his fighting career: his Christian faith.
He has spoken publicly about viewing his career as an opportunity to serve a purpose beyond winning fights. That belief remains central as he enters the biggest stretch of his young professional career.
When asked what he wanted to say directly to AKA fans, Driehuis didn’t give a conventional promotional answer. He gave them a statement of exactly who he believes he is.
