Andrew Larvergne vs. Isaiah Williams is one of the biggest fights you can make in Louisiana.
AKA 59 goes down in Lake Charles, LA this Saturday at Golden Nuggets. In there with the main attractions is a amateur lightweight title fight between Andrew “The Truth” Lavergne and Isaiah “Wildman” Williams.
Both fighters have momentum with Williams coming off three-straight submissions, including one Twister. That’s not what you see every day, especially in someone’s fourth amateur fight.
Lavergne last won AKA gold with a 68-second knockout of Codie Williams. Going after a different Williams this time around, Lavergne looks to extend his win streak to 3.
Andrew Lavergne doesn’t think Isaiah Williams will be ‘easy win’
Williams returns to AKA almost three years after he made his debut with them. Lavergne, who has finished five out of his six wins, didn’t know who Williams was when he got the call to fight from 17-fight UFC veteran Matt Schnell.
“Not really [familiar],” Lavergne said when asked if he knew Williams. “I didn’t really see too much or hear too much about him. I only heard about him when Matt Schnell gave me the call to fight him.”
It’s safe to say Lavergne has done his homework in the 10-week training camp for his opponent.
“He’s a dog,” Lavergne said of Williams. “He’s super opportunistic. He’s really there to fight. I don’t think he’ll be an easy win but we’ll see. He’s good competition and I can’t wait for the fight.”
Lavergne was asked what he thought of this matchup being called one of the largest fights in Louisiana.
“I’m one of the biggest fights you can make in Louisiana,” Lavergne said. “I think that’s what I bring to the table. I don’t think who I’m fighting determines that.”
Isaiah Williams: Andrew Lavergne not a problem for me
When Williams got word he was fighting Lavergne, he knew exactly who the Louisiana prospect was.
“I’ve seen him around for a while especially cause I follow AKA,” Williams said of his opponent Lavergne.
“He’s always been around my weight class. 145, 150. I know he’s bounced a lot and he’s fought some guys that I train with. He fought Nevan [Driehuis] before and Nevan’s also going to be on this AKA card.
“He likes to make his fight. He’s very slick on the feet. Very fast, he’s got a great left hook. If he’s moving forward, you’re in trouble. He’s a guy I respect very much. I respect his skills. His fighting style, I don’t see it as a problem for me.
“Anything’s possible, I’m gonna push the pace. Wherever there’s an opening, I’m going to take it to finish the fight,” Williams said ahead of AKA 59 on Saturday.
