Luis Waldo became the new AKA Amateur Featherweight Champion at AKA 56, defeating highly regarded prospect Elijah Holt by unanimous decision at Southland Casino Hotel in West Memphis, Arkansas.
Representing Nashville MMA Training Camp and cornered by retired UFC veteran Dustin Ortiz, Waldo entered the championship matchup with a 2-1 amateur MMA record. Standing across the cage was Holt, a talented 6-1 prospect riding a six-fight winning streak.
Waldo immediately showed that he was prepared for the challenge.
He maintained a relentless pace throughout the fight, attacking Holt with damaging leg kicks, forward pressure, well-timed takedowns, positional control, and effective ground-and-pound.
Waldo refused to allow Holt to become comfortable in any area of the fight. He found success striking at range, closed the distance when opportunities appeared, and remained active and dangerous once the action reached the ground.
The performance demonstrated the complete skill set Waldo has developed under Ortiz and the coaching staff at Nashville MMA. Rather than relying on a single strength, Waldo combined striking, wrestling, grappling, conditioning, and intelligent pressure to control the championship contest.
After five rounds, all three judges awarded the fight to Waldo. The unanimous-decision victory improved his amateur record to 3-1 and crowned him the new AKA Amateur Featherweight Champion.
For Waldo, AKA 56 represented a breakthrough performance. He entered the cage against one of the region’s most promising amateur fighters and delivered his most complete performance to date.
Holt continued battling despite Waldo’s sustained pressure and showed the toughness that helped him build a six-fight winning streak before AKA 56. At 6-2, Holt remains a promising young prospect, and American Kombat Alliance looks forward to seeing how he responds in his next appearance.
Waldo, meanwhile, leaves West Memphis with championship gold and considerable momentum behind him.
